Some of you may remember my tale of 'the
camera that I just cannot seem to buy', a
Canon G2. I've been trying to purchase one
of these cameras since about last September.
Yes, that's right, over eight months ago.
I tried to buy one here in Tokyo, but couldn't
get the necessary English software; I tried
to buy it from three different online stores
who promised it to me and then later backed
out; I finally bought one from a shop in
the US and it got returned to sender, damaged
no less, because of an incorrect address;
Karen tried to buy me another one for Christmas
but it got lost in Canadian customs, and
we haven't been able to order a new one until
the lost one was dealt with by the seller's
insurance company.
Well, after three months the insurance company
settled with the seller and they have shipped
a new camera to me here in Tokyo. They sent
it FedEx, so we can track its location online.
Yesterday we saw that it made it to Japan,
but for some reason it's been delayed. DELAYED.
Can you believe that?
At this point I have stopped hoping that
I will ever get the damn thing. That said,
I'm closer to getting it than ever before,
and if I do, you can expect the picture quality
on Hunkabutta to move up a notch or two in
the near future.
Wish me and my camera luck.

In other, strangely related news, my
new
credit card has been lost in the mail.
I'm
still working out how to get a new
one.
The reason I'm telling you this is because
there is a chance that Hunkabutta might go
off line for a while when my hosting renewal
date comes up, which is April 14. Hopefully
that won't happen, but if it does, don't
worry, I'm not going anywhere, just keep
checking back until I'm up and running again.

Yes, here it is, another 'Jack day' on Hunkabutta.
They always seem to be enjoyed by a few,
hard-core hunkabutta readers.
I'm working on a new gallery-section page
for Jack, and today's pictures are a sample
from that gallery. I hope to have the rest
finished by the end of the week.

As expected, the weekend was uneventful.
I did get to study some Japanese though,
but that's about all.
The most interesting thing that happened,
sadly enough, was that Jack got sick for
the first time. Nothing serious, so don't
worry. He's just got a minor case of croup,
which is kind of like baby laryngitis.
He had a bit of a cold for a few days (as
did Karen and I) and then one morning we
woke up and it sounded like he was choking
on a chainsaw. Kinda of scary really, but
we took him to the doctor right away and
she told us that it was croup and nothing
to worry too much about. We've been giving
him sauna sessions in the shower room (humid
air is apparently the best thing) and he
seems to be doing fine.
If fact, being ill hasn't seemed to have
affected his cheery demeanor at all. He's
still all smiles, shouts, and wriggles. The
only difference is that when he tries to
talk he sounds like a combination Darth Vader
and Don Corlione from The Godfather.

I'm ready for the weekend. It's been
slow
at work this week, but sometimes that
makes
it more stressful, if you know what
I mean.
We've got no big plans for the weekend. Actually,
I think that I'm just going to be spending
a lot of time studying Japanese.
I've recently come into some newfound determination
to learn the language. Yes, it may surprise
you that I don't already speak it fluently,
considering how long I've been here, but
such is the lot of the lazy language student.
Well, that's going to change! Don't ask me
why, but for some reason I feel all fired
up about it. I've given myself until Jack's
birthday (July 24) to attain a 'Business
Level' proficiency (As determined by standardized
national tests). This may be a bit lofty
of a goal, but I figure, why not aim high?
